In 2009, Kristin Ahmer, our CEO and founder of The Sili Company, was a patient of Mission Hospital’s Cranial Intensive Care Unit after being diagnosed and treated for a brain bleed the day after giving birth to her first-born son, Will Reef. After successful brain surgery, Kristin will always remember how she was tenderly cared for by the loyal surgeons, doctors and nurses. As she affectionately states: “The doctors saved my life, the nurses saved my spirit and soul.”
Seeking opportunity in every adventure, Kristin developed an insatiable desire to savor the moment’s life presented her, beginning in her first year of recovery when she created the Sili Squeeze (which gave birth to The Sili Company). During the early development of The Sili Company, Kristin knew this business would provide an outlet for supporting the larger world community around her. As The Sili Company opened its doors, she immediately began researching ways we could give back to our surrounding communities. Throughout this process, an unexpected discovery was made - Kristin realized The Sili Company could offer more than a monetary donation - we could provide Sili Squeezes to children and adults with eating challenges and help provide the much needed nutrients their bodies craved.
In 2011, with a heart full of gratitude for her second chance at life, Kristin contacted the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (a division of Mission Hospital). CHOC confirmed the Sili Squeezes would be a blessing to many of their patients. No longer limited to fruit juices and smoothies – these little ones could expand their nutrition intake to include vegetable purees and pro biotic yogurt blends, getting a wider range of vitamins and nutrients.
So we reached out to you, our Sili family, and announced that we would donate one Sili Squeeze to CHOC for every Sili Squeeze purchased on our website. The response was emotional and inspiring, and at the end of December 2011, CHOC received over 300 Sili Squeezes thanks to the generosity of hundreds of our extended Sili family members.
Project Sili Soul will continue to give back the goodness every year. And with the generous support and kindhearted commitment from our extended Sili family, we will be able to make drastic, healthy changes to our nation-wide community.
